And so the freeloading bandwagon moves on...

THE freeloading bandwagon moves across to the Duke Street area of Liverpool tonight, when Jalons Bridewell holds is official launch.

The bar/restaurant, formerly Colin’s Bridewell, is, of course, located in what used to be the local police nick.

The former cells, which at one time would have housed drunken undesirables, have been kept and turned into private booths in which are sometimes to be found, er, drunken undesirables.

In keeping with the theme, the entrance will be guarded by ladies dressed in police-style uniforms featuring hats, badges and other paraphernalia.

Trading Gossip understands all the gear for the guards is being provided by that well known supplier of uniforms, Ann Summers.

A DRAGON’S Den-style roadshow hit Liverpool this week as part of a UK-wide search to find young entrepreneurs.

The Ideas Igloo Roadshow, supported by Microsoft, visited Liverpool Community College to put some potential business people through their paces.

As the name on the tin suggests, the sessions were held inside an igloo. The reason for this isn’t clear although Microsoft’s Lars Lindstedt, above, points out that “innovation is at the heart of everything we do at Microsoft”.

Less than innovative was the company’s PR poppet, who produced a giant cheque and seemed a little offended when we refused to take a picture of it, pointing out that no self-respecting newspaper has printed such a thing since around 1983.

YOU may have read elsewhere in today’s Business Week about a new £6m Enterprise Centre being opened in St Helens. The development is set to become the home of “enterprise excellence” in the town.

Attached to the press release sent out is an artist’s impression of the new centre.

However, one local who saw the picture told Trading Gossip he thought there had been one or two omissions.

He said: “The canal is known locally as the Hotties, because the nearby Pilkington site pumped hot water into it. It is often covered in algae and a shopping trolley or two can regularly be found bobbing along, thanks to the nearby supermarket.”
