ST PAUL’S Square has been commended for its contribution to achieving a sustainable transport infrastructure in Merseyside.
The flagship regeneration scheme, situated near Old Hall Street in Liverpool city centre, picked up the accolade for best transport design for a new development at the inaugural Merseyside Local Transport Plan Awards.
The judges praised St Paul’s Square for minimising car parking, providing over 150 cycle parking spaces, including showers and changing facilities in all offices and for its step-free level access across the whole develop-ment.
The awards, held at St George’s Hall, were organised by the Merseyside Local Transport Partnership, which is made up of Merseytravel and the region’s five local authorities.
Architects RHWL designed the entire St Paul's Square scheme for English Cities Fund (ECF), which is a joint venture between Muse Developments, English Partnership and Legal & General.
Dan Needham, development director of ECF, said: “Sustainability and sound strategic planning are at the core of the St Paul’s Square design.
“We believe this is the greenest and most technologically-advanced scheme of its kind in the North West.”
