New hotel plans for West Point project

TRAVELODGE plans to create a hotel in a new St Helens development, as part of its aggressive growth programme.

The 64-room lodge forms part of the £30m West Point project in the town, which including 111 apartments, a ten-pin bowling alley and shops.

The company is investing £28.3m in the construction of other new hotels in Cheshire, Poole, Newport, Clacton, Ashbourne, Felixstowe, Devizes, and Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands. All nine sites – which collectively constitute 14% of the company's annual room target – are due to open for business with in 18 months.

"This announcement demonstrates our strong development pipeline and these new hotels will add 568 new rooms to our portfolio," said Travelodge property director Paul Harvey. "We are clearly well on our way to reaching our target of 4000 new rooms by the end of the year."

He added: "We are investing millions of pounds to enhance the UK tourism offer and with more quality, value accommodation for to domestic tourists we hope to make hotels available to more peo- ple than ever before."

Travelodge has outlined plans to treble its estate by 2020, which would give company a 10% share of the market.
