Last call for Regional Business Awards ’08

THERE are just ten days left for the brightest and the best in the region’s business community to enter the 2008 Daily Post Regional Business Awards.

There are nine awards to recognise the very highest achievers in business in Merseyside and Cheshire.

The awards have been running since 1992 and give the region’s businesses, whatever their size or sector, a great chance to win much-deserved recognition for their work creating jobs and prosperity.

Winners will be presented with their awards on Wednesday, July 16, at a gala black-tie dinner at St George’s Hall hosted by newsreader Peter Sissons.

Today we focus on the O2-sponsored Small Business of the Year award and the Northwest Development Agency-sponsored Business Science and Technology title.

Last year, the small business title went to Runcorn-based Ventcroft, which makes cable and electronics products for the fire and security markets.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ventcroft’s sales director Jim Malone said: “We were delighted to win this prestigious award. The company has been going from strength to strength and this award endorses the hard work and effort of all our staff.”

The science and technology title was last year won by IOTA NanoSolutions of Liverpool. Within days of last June’s ceremony, the company was honoured again at the Merseyside Innovation Awards.

Speaking last July, chief executive Andrew Elphick said: “For a small start-up company it’s very exciting to be recognised in this way, but to receive two such prestigious awards in the space of a week is totally unexpected.”

The awards are open to any business operating in the Daily Post circulation area of Merseyside, West Lancashire (including Skelmersdale and Ormskirk) and NW Cheshire (including Chester, Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington).

The judging panel will include Daily Post business editor Bill Gleeson and representatives of our three main sponsors.
