THE Liverpool Daily Post’s Property Awards for 2008 are being launched.
Widely regarded as the most prestigious in the region, local businesses will soon have the chance to enter this year’s awards.
The cream of Merseyside, Cheshire and West Lancashire developers will be part of a celebration of successes in the property industry.
This is the fourth year of the Liverpool Daily Post Property Awards, which have continued to grow and make a significant mark.
Winners last year included the Phoenix Park Pavilion, South Liverpool Project and Miller Homes Ltd North West Region, while a special achievers award was given to David Waugh of Liverpool Land Development Company.
This year’s glitzy gala dinner will be held at the BT Convention Centre where nominees will discover who will walk away with awards such as the Regeneration Award.
This prize will go to developers which have taken on dated or derelict property, land or brownfield sites in the past 12 months. The key to this award, in Capital of Culture year, will be the lasting legacy the winner leaves behind.
The other awards include Residential Development of the Year – City Style Living; Residential Development of the Year – Social Housing; Retail, Office or Leisure Development of the Year; Mixed Use Development of the Year; Property Developer of the Year – Large Business, for companies with over 250 employees, and Best Partnership Project.
Miller Homes which picked up the Weightmans Property Developer of the Year – Large Business in 2007, went on to win the highly coveted national ‘Housebuilder of the Year’.
David Waugh’s Liverpool Land Development Company transformed hundreds of acres of Speke and Garston wastelands helping set up the National Biomanufacturing Centre and science park.
The awards come as most Liverpool goes through one of its most dramatic periods of regeneration and development the region has ever seen.
But the awards are designed not only to celebrate these sweeping changes to the city centre, but also suburban developments and residential programmes across the region.
The link between all those winning awards last year was summed up by John Kelly, regeneration director for Liverpool City Council, at the awards ceremony.
He said that the city and the districts surrounding Liverpool were developing “a real lasting international quality,” – onewhich the people of Merseyside should be inspired by.
