Record day for John Lewis store in Liverpool One

JOHN Lewis’s store in Liverpool One enjoyed a record day more than a month after the £1bn shopping centre opened.
The store shrugged off deepening gloom over the retail sector as its performance maintains its strong start.
Phil Hullah, John Lewis’s commercial director, said: “Liverpool kept up its momentum with another excellent result for the week and its biggest day so far in the new location on Saturday.”
Sales across the group were down 8.3% on the previous year as the launch of its Clearance failed to match the record sales of 2007.
The group also saw sales in out-of-town locations fall more significantly than town centre stores, which matches the experience of Marks & Spencer, which announced a similar trend this week.
