BBC director general to speak at Chamber dinner

THE director general of the BBC, Mark Thompson, will be the keynote speaker at Liverpool Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner later this year.

The theme of this year’s event, taking place on November 20 at the city’s BT Convention Centre, will be Capital of Culture.

Chamber chief executive Jack Stopforth says the dinner has grown in popularity in recent years and believes the venue this year will ensure demand remains high.

He added: “We are taking on a big job choosing a venue with 700 seats. The growing support the annual dinner has enjoyed in the previous years and the success of the British Chambers Convention held at the BT Convention Centre in April has demonstrated that there will be a great demand for this event.

“I am looking forward to a truly memorable night with a few surprises.”

Mr Thompson has been in the top job at the BBC since June 2004 and he has steered the corporation through its 10 yearly Charter Review process, securing licence fee funding for the next six years.
