PONTIN’S sent an excitable press release out this week exalting its summer signings.
Not for them Ronaldo or Gareth Barry, but instead, step forward from Britain’s Got Talent, singer James Stone, comedian Craig Harper and dance act Vizage. The headline act, though, is “Brian Mills of The X Factor”.
Extensive research (well, a Google search) has been unable to find such a person. You probably don’t remember there was once a Ben Mills, who missed out on the 2006 final when Leona Lewis beat Liverpool’s Ray Quinn.
But if Pontin’s can’t remember his name, they can’t really expect anyone else to.
CONGRATULATIONS to the brainboxes at Malcolm J Ross Solicitors, whose team heads the pub quiz treasure hunt organised by Liverpool Chamber of Commerce’s Business Crime Direct team.
A quiz is held in the city centre every Tuesday night for eight weeks. Teams have to answer questions about pubs that can only be answered by visiting those hostelries., so the length of each quiz night depends on how many refreshment breaks teams take.
The Ross team has been joint winner twice, tying with a brilliant Daily Post team last week. Now they will be awaiting today’s announcement of the results of last night’s fourth round results. If you feel you can take them on over the next four weeks, get in touch with Business Crime Direct.
THE Tall Ships Race attracted thousands of people to Wellington Dock to see the glories of the golden age of sail., doubtless boosting a few business coffers along the way. Wellington Dock sits next to United Utilities’ Sandon Dock sewage treatment complex, which had been decked out with posters, including one saying “United Utilities Breathing New Life into the Mersey”.
But one observer told Trading Gossip that, if you were sitting at a chip stand or on a boat nearby, it certainly wasn’t new life you could smell. coming from the plant.
TWO Paver Smith employees rather missed the boat on Monday while a party was in full swing. as the great and good watched the Tall Ships Parade. down the River Mersey
A couple of committed public relations executives – who we’ll call Jade and Helen – took it upon themselves to continue working, but were thwarted by the guests spilling into every meeting room in the Paver Smith’s Plaza offices, so they entrepreneurial workers moved their meeting to the stairs.
Clearly Dougal Paver’s expansion plans need to focus on finding lebensraum.
