Players help start a new era for the pools

FORMER Liverpool stars and others from the world of football joined local gaming company Sportech in London for the launch of the company’s football pools games.

Sportech, which owns Littlewoods, Vernons and Zetters pools, is relaunching them under the name of New Football Pools as it bids to breathe life into the product, which has suffered since the launch of the National Lottery.

Alan Hansen, Les Ferdinand, John Barnes and Tony Cascarino joined the launch in London last night.

Sportech has launched new online games, where fans can pit their wits against the four players.

The company has also appointed Will Muirhead as managing director of its football gaming businesses, Footballpools.com.

Mr Muirhead founded and ran Tixdaq, the leading provider of data to the live music industry, and SportEV, which delivers online and mobile video for the Premier League and FIFA.
