Bank’s £750,000 cash injection helps plant business to expand

A FORMBY-BASED plant business is blooming after securing a £750,000 investment.

Porters Horticultural, which employs 30 people at its three sites across West Lancashire, is expanding its greenhouse site in Formby by 50%, from four acres to six acres.

The funding has been provided by Royal Bank of Scot- land and its asset finance arm Lombard.

This will allow the firm to grow a wider range of crops throughout the year and the extra space will bring operational efficiencies and streamline the exist- ing growing process.

John Porter, of Porters Horticultural, said: “The additional space created by the extension will be a real bonus for us.

“Not only does it give us the chance to extend the range of plants that we grow, it also means that we can make the growing process more efficient and reduce the time between planting and dispatch.”

The firm employs 30 people at its three sites across West Lancashire and supplies retailers including B&Q and Woolworths.
