Health staff sign up for campaign – to get themselves healthy!

HOSPITAL employees across Merseyside and Cheshire are being targeted by a pioneering programme.

Nourish is a campaign across ten participating trusts to improve the eating habits of staff and encourage healthy eating.

The project, running until December, could impact on the health of more than 30,000 hospital staff as well as many hospital visitors.

Speaking at the launch at Wirral’s Arrowe Park Hospital, Robin Ireland, chief executive of Heart of Mersey, a cardiovascu-lar disease prevention charity, said the project would make real impact.

He said: “Hospitals have always had a commitment to try and improve food for patients as part of their recovery but very rarely has attention been given to the health of staff.

“We believe hospitals should practice what they preach and encourage healthy eating among employees.

“We have listened to staff, many of whom aren’t well paid and what they want from the staff restaurant, and we’re confident they will like the healthy options available.”

Heart of Mersey has already undertaken research revealing relatively poor dietary habits among hospital staff.
