LIVERPOOL airport’s second-largest operator, Easyjet, yesterday announced an increase in passengers that flew with them last month.
In September, 4.2m passengers used the airline – a 22% rise on a year earlier. It maintained strong demand for the year to date, with the total number of passengers up 17% at 43.7m.
Significantly, the airline’s load factor – the proportion of the aeroplane that is filled – was also up. Last month’s load factor of 86.9% was almost two percentage points higher than the same month a year earlier, and is an improvement on its average of 84.1% for the last nine months.
The low-cost airline, which operates 18 routes out of Liverpool, carried out heavy promotional activity in June and July with up to 20% off 2m seats to boost traffic.
The airline is being hit by high oil prices, and the company recently warned annual profits could be as much as 42% lower than last year, as it faced up to an increase of £185m in its annual fuel bill.
