Liver Building to have £3m upgrade

ROYAL Liverpool Group is to embark on a multi-million pound refurbishment of its world famous waterfront headquarters.

With this summer marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal Liver Building’s foundation stone being laid, the group will undertake a £3m upgrade of the listed building’s interior to match the standards offered by Liverpool’s commercial office market.

Any upgrade of the building would make it more attractive to a potential buyer.

In an interview with the latest edition of the LDP Business magazine, Royal Liver chief executive Steve Burnett admitted that he would consider selling the building if it was considered the right thing to do.

“Our members love this building,” he said. “But it’s worth between £50m and £80m. It’s a substantial amount of money to have in one asset.” Warrington-based Claremont Group Interiors has been appointed to modernise the common areas over nine floors.

Peter Fane, head of property at Royal Liver Group, said: “Claremont’s quality design, commitment and reliability, coupled with their expertise and experience, make them the ideal partner for Royal Liver to revitalise this iconic Grade 1 Listed Building." Š
